Put two or three records next to each other and contrast their class, mechanism, indications, identifiers, and chemistry. Reads straight from the existing drug records — a reference contrast, never a recommendation.
Mechanism-of-action classes: Cytochrome P450 2D6 Inhibitors; Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors; Serotonin Uptake Inhibitors.
Although the exact mechanism of fluoxetine is unknown, it is presumed to be linked to its inhibition of CNS neuronal uptake of serotonin.
The mechanism of antidepressant action of escitalopram, the S-enantiomer of racemic citalopram, is presumed to be linked to potentiation of serotonergic activity in the central nervous system (CNS) resulting from its inhibition of CNS neuronal reuptake of serotonin (5-HT).

- Major Depressive Disorder – Sertraline hydrochloride is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder in adults. The efficacy of Sertraline hydrochloride in the treatment of a major depressive episode was established in six to eight week controlled trials of adult outpatients whose diagnoses corresponded most closely to the DSM-III category of major depressive disorder (see Clinical Trials under CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY ).F32.9
- Fluoxetine is indicated for the treatment of: Acute and maintenance treatment of Major Depressive Disorder [see Clinical Studies (14.1) ] . Acute and maintenance treatment of obsessions and compulsions in patients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) [see Clinical Studies (14.2) ] .F32.9, F42.9
